I Don’t Want A 5 Month Break!

As you all know, I’ve just finished my second year of university *sobs quietly*. But I now find myself with five months(?!) off of university, and bar a few visits home to Dartford (which mostly involves sitting in The Stage Door where I live), and two-days-a-week-work: I don’t have a lot to do!

My new book: 52 Writing Prompts: One For Every Week of The Year (co-written with Lara Rye) comes out today! Meaning that’s one project to cross of the list… You can click here to like her Facebook page.

July 1st 2014 is the day “Searching For Katherine” comes out, so that’s something.

However, July 1st is also the day I move in with Shelby, so that’s going to be an interesting deadline… I’m not/am looking forward to moving.

  • I have to move
  • I won’t see Lara for ages
  • It’s an extra ten minutes away from university
  • It means I have to move loads of stuff back home because my room is smaller in the new house

  • I’m moving in with Shelby
  • I get to organise a new room
  • I get to move (I hate staying in one place)
  • there’s live TV ( I miss live TV)

After that, my friends and I are planning an Apocalypse fiction collection (release date TBA)

The one good thing about this huge break is that I have loads of time to read! I’ve recently bought and attained about thirty new books that I need to read (as well as the ones I’ve had for months and haven’t even opened.)

It will also give me the chance to work on my new pen name (Melody Carter), and hopefully get her first book out!

Maybe this five month break will be exactly what I need: sun, writing and words!

What do you think I should be working on this summer? Let me know in the comments, or Tweet me @melissaholden94

I’ve finished 2nd year…

So today I handed in my last assignment for my second year at university. It’s a little bit daunting knowing that in a year I will be leaving uni, but I’m trying not to think about it.

Instead, I thought I should focus on what a great year I have had as a student and as an author, so here goes:

September 2013:

Had a belated birthday Doctor Who style!

May 2014:

Made this awesome-sauce blog! https://thelifeofa19yearoldauthor.wordpress.com/

Met some amazing people on Twitter and am slowly building up my writing footprint. I also joined Readwave and became a Theme Editor.

had possible the best break up ever with my boyfriend, and now we are really good mates. I realized that I need some one more serious and ready for commitment (shocking I know) and he wants to live in a cave with really good WiFi.

So, one academic year later my life has changed a lot – but for the better. Where loved ones were lost, new friends came about. I hope you are having a good a year as I am!

I Have Joined ReadWave

A little update into my writing life:

After the failure that was my Medium.com attempt (SIDE NOTE: That is why I started this blog!) I have decided to delve into social media writing once again, and have joined Read Wave.

ResdWave is very sleek and user-friendly, which is great news for writers everywhere! It is hard to find a good platform for your work, and when you are a self-published writer, places like ReadWave are perfect for displaying your writing.

My first article was…

Why Facebook Are No Longer the Cool Kids of Social Media

My second was…

Why Being A Writer In The 21st Century Is Hard

Please keep an eye on my Twitter for updates about my ReadWave page, as I have a lot to say and share with the world, and would love it if you continue to follow me on my journey that is The Writing World.

Wow, You Actually Listen To Me (blogging)

When people listen to something you’ve said, it’s nice. When they quote you at you, it’s even better.

A while ago on my other blog: melissaholden@wordpress.com, a woman quoted my About Me page to me, and I was amazed. Because it is one thing to listen to someone, but to read their words, interpret and understand them, and then need to share your opinion with them on the internet: it’s like free cake!

Sorry, no free cake (just a tempting picture which is making me hungry!). But, you get my point: being rewarded for something that just came out and wasn’t practiced or rehearsed – it’s an amazing feeling.

My Top Ten Ways To Procrastinate

1. YouTube vlogs:

2. Scrolling:

I’m constantly scrolling through social media sights – it’s a real problem!

3. Watching DVDs:

Me and my friend/housemate Lara are currently on S6 Ep 4 of Lost (if you haven’t seen it, go watch it – now!)

4. Texting:

I never put my phone down, like ever.

5. Apps:

I’m always downloading new apps or games to see if they’re any good – BUT: I still haven’t tried Candy Crush…

6. Music:

I have a free Spotify account (I will splash out and buy Premium one day). I’m notorious for my awful taste in music, so my boyfriend made me a playlist of “toons” (forgive his ironic spelling). I like it so far, but at the moment, my favourite playlist has to be: ‘Pre-Drinking Playlist’ – by Her Campus CCCU – you should check it out!

7. Eating:

I will hold my virtual hands up to this and confess: I am a snacker. I just can’t be bothered to cook (sorry, Mom)

8. Reading:

You would think that reading would be higher on the list, but I usually read in the bath or in bed – so it’s basically multi-tasking.

9. Doodling:

You should see the state of my notebooks – I can barely go a page without a doodle of some kind. It’s usually things like arrows, or flowers (I wonder what that means…?)

10. Selfies:

I’m 19 – what do you expect?
